The Clean Sky 2 programme has being designed for developing a new generation of technology demonstrators for the European aerospace industry. In this sense, several concepts are being integrated focused in the development of a wing demonstrator. In the context of this Project, a set of Fairings have been developed in the last months for the INBD and OUTBD Tab Track Fairings. These Fairings are completely new as the new Flaps are Double-Slotted and the Tracks of the second stage of the Flaps needed to be covered by a smooth aerodynamic surface. After analyzing all the relevant requirements for this application (dimensions, geometry, lead time, cost, etc.) and after performing several trade-offs, it was decided to develop these Fairings by additive Manufacturing techniques using Scalmalloy® alloy.
Collaborative activities have been carried out between Aerodynamic, Stress, Design and Manufacturing Areas in order to obtain a set of airworthy Fairings manufactured in Scalmalloy® that will fly in the Clean Sky 2 Prototype. This technical paper will show all the activities done and the lessons Learnt while defining these Fairings in terms of Aero geometry Optimization, Structural integration of the Fairings in the A/C and all the Manufacturing considerations regarding residual stresses minimization during Manufacturing, supporting strategies, surface finish and validation of non-destructive methods.
